Abby Gowland (b. 2000, she/her) is originally from Courtice, Ontario. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) and a minor in Art History from Queen’s University (2024). She is currently a member of Open Studio, Toronto, and an emerging member at Propeller Art Gallery.
Working across printmaking and digital illustration, she distinguishes her approaches by medium. Her illustrations are defined by a flat, graphic aesthetic that incorporates layered textures, intricate patterns, and stylized, exaggerated figures. Her print work explores traditional drypoint techniques, in which she often depicts floral imagery, with a focus on symmetry and pattern. Conceptually, her work explores themes of vulnerability, community, and togetherness, often informed by her experiences growing up in a small town with same-sex parents.
Gowland has exhibited in numerous exhibitions, including Show of Smalls, Art Noise 2022, (Kingston, ON); Cézanne's Closet, Union Gallery 2023, (Kingston, ON); Experimental Intervention, Propeller Art Gallery 2024 (Toronto, ON); The Kingston School of Art’s Annual Juried Exhibition 2022, 2024 – Honourable Mention 2024; The Art Gallery of Bancroft’s Annual Juried Exhibition 2024 – 2nd Place Prize; TOMPE: The Ontario Miniature Print Exhibition, Tap Centre for Creativity 2024 (London, ON); and Artist Project Toronto (2025).
She has also exhibited internationally at the Mini Print of Cadaqués, Galleria Taller Fort 2025 (Catalonia, Spain), and the International Mini Print Exhibition, Wingfield Barns 2025 (Diss, United Kingdom). Her work can be seen by the public at the Rotary Park, Cobourg ON (2022) and the Robert Bruce Memorial Parking Garage, Kingston, ON (2025.)
